The Indian film industry's biggest annual event, the Bollywood Award Ceremony is taking place in the Northern English city of Sheffield. 12,000 fans turned out to watch Bollywood's biggest star's arrival, parading down a green carpet rather than a red one to highlight global warming. The 2007 International Indian Film Award in Sheffield got off to a showbiz starting with thousands of fans around in the stadium determined to catch a glimpse of their idols. Amitabh Bachchan, Shilpa Shetty, Colin Firth and the Cultural Secretary Tessa Jowell all took their turn on the green carpet. The Awards themselves were punctuated by performances from India's favorite actors, singers and comedians. Globally 500 million people are thought to have turned into the ceremony on television. And it is estimated that the event could earn the region up to 10 million pounds. |
