Lyrics

[00:06.17] I was a Junior in high school when I turned the TV on.
[00:12.52] James Huberty went to a restaurant, shot everyone up with a machine gun.
[00:18.62] It was from my hometown.
[00:21.35] We talked about it til the sun went down.
[00:24.73] Then everybody got up and stretched and yawned and then our lives went on.
[00:31.18] And I just left Safeway, when I walked through my doorway.
[00:37.05] When a guy took a boat to an island and shot up a bunch of little kids up in Norway.
[00:43.36] Called a few of my friends round here, but no one much really cared.
[00:49.00] But I did, because I've got a lot of friends there.
[00:55.61] I just arrived in Seoul, by way of Beijing.
[01:01.68] I had an hour to myself in my hotel when I turned on the TV.
[01:07.55] It was quite a thriller, CNN was promoting the Batman killer.
[01:14.29] His eyes were glazed like he was from Mars.
[01:17.10] Yesterday he was no one, today he was a star.
[01:20.53] I was down in New Orleans, at the Hotel Monteleone.
[01:26.03] Enjoying some time all to myself when I turned the TV on.
[01:32.36] There were shootings in a Portland mall.
[01:35.26] It was everyday America and that's all.
[01:38.61] It was just another one walked down Royal Street, the rest of the world was out having fun.
[01:44.52] December fourteenth, another killing went down. 12
[01:50.18] I got a letter from a fan he said Mark say a prayer for Newtown.
[01:56.44] I ain't one to pray, but I'm one to sing and play for women and children and moms and dads and brothers and sisters and uncles and aunts.
[02:09.33] December twenty-fifth, and I was just laying down.
[02:14.42] I picked up a pen, I wrote a letter to the guy in Newtown.
[02:20.39] I said I'm sorry about the killings, and the teachers who lost their lives.
[02:26.58] I felt it coming on, I felt it in my bones and I don't know why.
[02:32.71] So when Christmas comes and you're out running around.
[02:38.57] Take a moment to pause and think of the kids who died in Newtown.
[02:49.48] They went so young, who gave their lives.
[02:55.28] To make us stop and think and try to get it right.
[03:04.59] Were so young, a cloud so dark over them.
[03:11.28] And they left home, gave their mom and dad a kiss and a hug.
[03:19.43] So when your birthday comes and you're feeling pretty good,
[03:25.80] baking cakes and opening gifts and stuffing your mouth with food.
[03:36.35] Check it off for the children who lost their lives.
[03:44.05] Think of their families and how they mourn and cry.
[03:51.31] When you're gonna get married and you're out shopping around,
[03:57.74] take a moment to think about the families that lost so much in Newtown.
[04:06.46]
