The Lightning |
Express at the depot so grand, |
Had just started out on it's way. |
Most of the passengers 'were on that train, seemed to be happy and gay. |
Except a little boy in a seat by himself, |
Reading a letter he had. |
It was plain to be seen by the tears in his eyes. that the contents of it made him sad. |
A stern Conductor about to seek, |
A ticket from everyone there. |
Approching beside of the little boy, |
He gruffly demanded his fare. |
I haven't no money was the boys reply, |
But I'll pay you back someday. |
I'll have to put you off at the station he said, |
But he stopped when he heard the boy say. |
Chorus: Please mister conductor, |
Don't put me off of your train. |
The best friend |
I have is this whole wide world, |
Is waiting for me in pain, |
Expected to die any moment now, |
She may not live through the day. |
I want to kiss mother goodbye sir, |
Before God takes her away. |
A little girl seated in a seat close by, |
Said to put that boy off is a shame. |
Taking his hat a collection she made, and soon paid his way on the train. |
Obliged to you miss for your kindness to me. |
You're welcome, |
I sure never fear. |
Yet each time the |
Conductor came through that train. |
These word seemed to ring in his ears. |
Repeat Chorus: |
