For me, it's really important to reinstate the mockingbirds in their rightful position as Darwin's key bird inspiration. We can understand Darwin better by looking at the mockingbirds and knowing these are the key ones and not the finches. One of the less well-known facts about Darwin is that he was fascinated by worms. He suspected they were central to soil fertility, and spent many hours making strange sounds and playing music to see what would bring them closer to the surface, and today his work continues, and there are many people still singing into the soil in the name of science.
