Another day and more species to count or not. Nothing as yet, nothing as yet. Even before the 24 hours is up, Juliet Brodie is revealing something strange amongst the seaweeds. Well, I'm shocked by the number of non-natives that are here after the last ten years. And I want to show you this one in particular, which is wireweed. This is one that's come from Japan and it's almost certainly come with the import of agricultural products, things that we eat. Things like. What, like oysters? Shellfish, oysters that sort of thing, yes. Juliet thinks that this invasive seaweed could be having an effect on the native species. We think this is declining. Now we don't know whether that's to do with the non-native species, or whether this is something else to do with climate change, or changes in grazing habits of species. We just don't really know.
