[ti:潮涌海岸 49] [ar:英语听力] [al:] [00:00.31]When a typhoon strikes, [00:02.48]one of the best places to be is Hong Kong harbour with its sheltered anchorage. [00:09.47] [00:20.01]A centre of international trade, [00:23.68]the city is famous for its jumble of skyscrapers and its bustling commercial center. [00:29.10]But there's a side to Hong Kong that's less well known. [00:35.31]Behind the urban sprawl lies a swathe of wetlands which include the Mai Po Nature Reserve. [00:50.37]Managed principally for the benefit of migrating birds, [00:54.11]the reserve maintains a series of traditional prawn farms, known as gei wais, [01:00.98]and their adjoining mangroves and mudflats. [01:03.87]Every two weeks from November to March, [01:10.33]one of the gei wais is drained by opening up the sluice gates.
